03 Apr Welcome to Spring
Welcome to Spring, even though Winter has been reasonably kind to us, Spring comes with a feeling of renewal and regrowth and for me a feeling of renewed energy and looking forward to the Summer months. Living by the sea and having a real connection with the positive health benefits of beach life, this is my favourite time of year.
What is your favourite time of year and how does it make you feel?
Seeing the sunshine can boost our mood and for one, once the sunshine is out we can experience an instant ‘feel good’ feeling. An increase in sunlight is thought to increase our serotonin levels in our brain and the UV Light is absorbed through our skin producing Vitamin D, essential for healthy bones.
What time do you consciously spend in your life to boost the happy hormones in your brain? and how much time do you spend on hobbies and re-charging throughout your busy week?
April is Stress Awareness Month and reflecting on how much time you actually slot in relaxation and re-charging into your week is so worthwhile. Relaxing allows us to be more productive in the long run because as well as the enjoyment factor of different hobbies and fun activities, it allows our brain to have a break so that we are not pushing ourselves to the brink of mental fatigue.
Finding time in your week to slot in relaxation and renewal time will help reduce levels of stress as it slows down many functions in the body that can break down after prolonged use. Relaxation can improve our mental health too, extra ideas include going for a walk, practicing mindfulness and spending time in nature, phone a friend, head for a workout, swim, write a journal, have fun with friends and family, treat yourself to a pamper session, light some scented candles or similar, play a musical instrument, listen to your favourite music, the list is endless. Consciously noticing within yourself what truly relaxes and uplifts you is a starting point.
Reminding you this month not to get too caught up in the hustle and bustle of every day life and that you remember to make time for yourself and take care of your own needs.
What can you do for self care this month that your future self will thank you for?
I am offering a free healthy life balance coaching session one to one locally to me in East Sussex or over skype or telephone, so that you can take time out to assess how you are spending your time and re-focus your time to bring better balance into your lifestyle.
